A welfare unit provides on-site toilets, washing facilities, drying rooms and rest areas for construction workers. Getting one onto site requires a HIAB truck — and some preparation.
Welfare Unit Weights and Sizes
Welfare units range from small self-contained cabins to large linked complexes. Weight varies from around 3-4 tonnes for a small single cabin to significantly more for a large welfare complex. Multiple units may need multiple HIAB lifts.
What HIAB Model is Needed?
For most standard units, a mid-range HIAB (622 or 658) is sufficient. Larger, heavier units may need the HIAB 858. We confirm the right vehicle when you provide the dimensions and weight.
Site Preparation Checklist
- Clear and level the placement area
- Set concrete blocks, bearers or a concrete pad ready to receive the unit
- Clear the route from site entrance to placement for a large HGV
- Plan service connections (water, drainage, power) for after placement
